Onward, upward and outward!

As you may have heard, the core of Atkins Scuba is currently in Thailand working on a new venture (that’s the “onward” part). Matthew and I left Victoria, B.C. just over a month ago. Since then we’ve been soaking up sunshine, immersing ourselves in “The Land of Smiles” and getting our feet underneath us. Our new home is Palm Beach Divers; where Matthew is  Course Director. Our goal here is to build an awesome and successful IDC business (upward!). Our time here may also hold dive travel opportunities for YOU as we get ourselves organized. More on that later…

We started running trips in 2007; the year after we became instructors. During the years since, we have seen so many of you join us, and then join us again… and move forward as divers. We’ve watched you grow, improve, become dive buddies and ultimately friends. We have so much love for Cozumel, and so many  of you have asked about a trip for 2016 – so we have recruited a new member to our team (outward!).

Stephanie!

Stephanie!

In order that we can provide the same great service and fantastic dive adventure we’ve always wanted for you, we have asked Stephanie Murphy to host this year’s trip to Coz. Stephanie has been on an Atkins Scuba trip every year since we began, and so she is well suited to continue our tradition! She joined us as an Open Water diver in 2007, and has worked her way through several courses – AOW, a gruelling Rescue Diver program, and several specialties along the way including Digital Underwater Photographer, Underwater Navigator and Night Diver – and is now contemplating her Divemaster course! She also has our insider knowledge of all our favourite restaurants and spots in Cozumel. Please join us in welcoming Steph to our team!

Emergency First Response Instructor in the house!

One of the best things about being a scuba diver is that there is always more to learn. At Atkins Scuba, we are firm believers in continuing education, and that includes for ourselves! At the DEMA show in November, Kari took some next steps and became an Emergency First Response Instructor Trainer. This means that in addition to being able to teach you the provider course and work on your EFR skills, she can now make you an instructor, ready to teach your own students! It was a fantastic experience, and it feels GOOD to keep learning!
